Today morning my neighbor came running holding her 2 years kid in the hand . She is Chinese lady. And started saying some thing in their language at a very high pitch voice and to be honest I did not understand a single word. Then after few min of my asking various Qs in English she started speaking in English. She told me that her elder son was playing on road ( Our is not thorough fare and all independent houses . The colony is pretty safe.) She was watching her elder son and said he is her pumpkin. It seems as he has out growing of petting by Mom, took offense and went inside the house running, and locked the house from inside. This lady did not know what to do. So I made her call her husband who was at work to come home so that he could open the lock with his key. Luckily he came fast and they entered the house without their elder son making any further mischief.
We were talking about kids in US. My friends were telling me in school the teachers ask the kids about the treatment being given by their parents. In US it seems kids do have the knowledge that if their parents try to control their behavior they can call the police.
I felt it is really weird. Parents are supposed to supervise and teach the kids what is right and what is wrong. Many times kids may not like it. But if they are not guided by parents how can they become good citizens?
In India we never hear kids calling police against their own parents.
I AM NOT SURE IT IS RIGHT THING FOR US GOVT CONTROLING THE PARENTS.
What do you think?
