That’s right, moderation is the key word. Thanks for the thoughtful comment.

I second your thoughts. I am a father and I do think there is no harm if children watch TV programs that is appropriate for their age. There is a program named "Art Attack" that comes in Disney and another similar program named M.A.D that comes in Pogo. And I have seen there are very some nice cartoon programs with nice messages that come in other Kid's TV channels.

A moderate approach and in which we guide the kids to watch the right programs for limited time is certainly the best way

Thanks for the appreciation. Yes kids get diverted from education if they become addicted to Telivison.

Silence in US is deafening . You are right the silence is painful here and that could be one of the reasons for kids get attracted to sounds from TV.

Yes ML the cold weather makes kids restricted to indoor activities and Parents may become some times helpless in controlling the viewing of TV programs. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts.

Growing up in the US is a lot different than in India.
For  one thing, Indian kids here feel a lot of peer pressure. They want to fit in with the rest of the kids in schools. So they try to emulate the other kids and that includes watching TV programs and discussing them during breaks.
Secondly, the cold weather greatly restricts outdoor activity. TV becomes a kind of asylum, esp during holidays. It is upto parents to help them maintain a healthy balance.
And I'm not too sure about what you say about daycare centers. During summer they have a lot of outdoor activities. Maybe during winter they turn to TV, but I don't think the TV is on all the time...
A very thought provoking post.

Indu, The kind of programs here for kids are not available in India. Like Nickeledon and Thomas train and tubby so on there are programs made with idea of enticing kids/toddlers. it works. and it is true. In India Kids ignore noise as it is everywhere , it is not so in USA, there is a lot of silence in life in US

To Indu3
Indujee,

The first thing that is at receiving end due to the TV is the kids' education. It diverts their attention to the things, which are alluring their minds but less important then the study. Yours is an attention grabbing article.

First, wow! You ve posted 311 blogs! Hats off!

What you say in this article is true-in India parents dont rant much about addictions-There are so many other problems they cant be bothered so much about one problem.

Agree with you 100% about guiding kids about watching the right programs. We should be around too, as much as possible -even if we are busy with housework drop in to the living room once a while just to be in touch...

good critic

Thanks for the visit and appreciation.

SueMenon

I have not visited any day care centers. When we meet people @ weekend parties this was the topic for the discussion.

Hey Sue thanks for the information, May be people should visit the day care centers before making the decision of sending their kid or not. I appreciate your visit and thanks for sharing your thoughts.
