Few days back I was watching a documentary about Niagara Falls. The main topic was whether the falls was natural or man made one. From US side it is man made Falls for the purpose of generating the power. And when I have learned this I felt disillusioned. Of course I have seen it from US side as well as from Canada side. And I thought it looks more beautiful from Canada side and now I know the reason too.
There is another fascinating part in that documentary. It seems in 1940 s people from US used to visit Niagara Falls to enjoy their honey moon. And especially they used to plan to be at the Falls on full moon day. How romantic!!!!!
I thought Romance and Moon go hand in hand in every country.
One more interesting thing was Indians used to sell beads to the tourists in olden days. I think those were Red Indians. And some of them said people used to visit Niagara Falls for spiritual peace. I thought how beautiful the thought itself. was. Sitting all alone before the Niagara falls, listening to the sounds of the great water falls itself takes us away from this world to another beautiful world where our soul can merge with the nature. And no surprise that in those olden days people found it to be a place suitable for spiritual sojourn .
Listening to the old people in the documentary saying that in those days not many lights were there hence the moon light Romance at the Niagara Falls for which honeymooners used to visit was more beautiful than the light shows which we are enjoying in present day, I thought in every country, every generation always think that olden day or past days were good.
The old saying of the Red Indians was if you know how to work with beads, you can survive any where on this earth. I really do not know how far it is correct, but in India, in Himalayan mountains we do find people surviving while working with the beads for their livelyhood.
After every thing said and done even today it is a pleasure to watch Niagara Falls and I am fascinated by its beauty and power.

ashokha I think it as a natural fall. Thanks a lot for the visit and for sharing your views. Indu

It is natural. By seeing itself we can come to that conclusion. Nobody can make such a
big cutting in the earth. Americans may cut a canal to get or divert some water and then
said we have made it..................

Thanks for stopping by palahali. And the joke is a good one.
Thanks for sharing.

You could be right. The growing number of tourists must be a hurdle for the spiritual serenity.
Thanks for dropping by.

the Niagra Falls is surely a beautiful place; the Native Americans must have had a spiritual affinity with the place, which was perhaps disrupted after the arrival of modern civilization

Nice Pik and article. I have also seen the place from both US and Canada. Yes, the view from canada is a nicer one. However, the US side is also emjoyable at the place where the river is running fast for the eventual fall. You have talked about honeymooners. I remember a joke - A young couple are showing some pictures of their Nayagara honeymoon to their five year old spn. Looking at all piks, the kid asks ' Where am I? Did I also come ? etc ' . The father replies " Well, you went to the place with me but came back with your mother!!"

Niagra is a river flowing from Lake Erie into Lake Ontario; forms boundary between Ontario and New York.....Waterfall in Canada is the Horseshoe Falls; in the United States it is the American Falls , together addressed as Niagra Falls which is also the name of the city (in western New York State at the falls of the Niagara river - a tourist attraction and honeymoon resort , as dear Indu, you have rightly mentioned in your writeup).

You are right, from US side the falls are not thrilling to look at.
Now after watching that documentary I am planning to go there on one Full moon night.
Hey thanks a lot Kiran.

You are right Red Indians are now called American Indians. Thanks for stopping by.
wiskyd
You are right wiz kid. Most of the Indians we see are South Indians from India and again many of them are from AP. When you are in CA , you generally forget that u r in US, why because wherever you go the Telugu words keep reaching your ears making you feel as if you are some where in Hyderabad.
That Joke is a good one.

Hey Indu,
...and they aren't selling beads. And most of these Indians are from USA...(United States of Andhra Pradesh)

That's a nice pic..you got lucky with the rainbow..:))
It's a lovely place for sure but one thing I have noticed is that if you go to Niagara nowadays more than half the tourists are Indians (from India)
BTW, this post about the Niagara reminded me of a joke I heard a long time back...
Question: What's the difference between Niagara and Viagra??
Answer: Niagara Falls!!

Indu3 : Great picture, I always loved going to Niagara Falls, somwhow though I do not like the US side, the view seems to be better from the Canadian side plus they have more things to do on the other side as well.
I can imagine that place being more nice and romantic without the lights and the tourists.
