I have received first hand information of the distress among people living in the Himalayan reason, whose sentiments, religious beliefs and practices, love for the Ganga and the flaura and fauna in and around Uttarakhand is at great risk today as a series of Dams are being planned for construction on the river Ganges between the Gangotri glacier and Uttarkashi for generation of Hydropower.

This will turn the Ganga into a thread of a stream in many areas and will also, cause it to turn into what is happening with Cauvery River in the south – Water wars between states. Uttarakhand Government is keeping quiet even as NGOs are fighting the issue.

Construction of a dam will disturb the natural flow regime, ecology, and the belief of devout Hindus in purity of the river Ganges that they consider sacred. Besides, all rivers support the lives of humans and nature around. This will destroy all for the greed of a few – industralists and politicians alike.

Water, a natural source, cannot belong to any one nation, business house or politician. It is a gift from existance. We have to stop the commercialization of water. By all means.
